Containing parts of three deserts, the Mojave, Great Basin and Sonoran Deserts, Mojave National Preserve demonstrates the sunning diversity of plant and animal life that exists in a climate usually considered barren. Sprawling over 1.6 million acres, the park is one of the largest in the nation and contains land from as high as 7,929 feet above sea level and as low as only 880 above sea level. Roads for both normal vehicles and 4-wheel-drive vehicles only offer the easiest way to see the sights, but there are many miles of hiking and horseback riding trails for dedicated adventurers as well as designated campgrounds and open backcountry camping. The preserve sits on the edge of the state next to Nevada, bordered by I-40 which heads into Arizona and I-15 which continues to Las Vegas from Los Angeles.
Open daily year round.
Free.
